Much Love Debby Goes Shabby!

Puttin on the Glitz!

I love the holidays and adore Christmas.  I'll be honest as a little girl in the country my family didn't celebrate.  A lot of times being the oldest of five and living as most would say in a modest two bedroom trailer I was lucky to have underwear! Don't underestimate it, underwear!   So, I admit it, I'm not a kinda less is more girl.  I lived my holidays through my kids and even though they are not home I continue to do so no matter how many miles away they may be.  So, this post is about dreaming, dreaming about top hats, white gloves, canes etc.....I've changed my tree up a little this year and hope you love it as much as I do.  Puttin on the Glitz, one top hat,  I made myself and dedicate it to a fellow blogger Kerryanne http://shabbyartboutique.com.  My mantel, well I've been collecting gloves for a while and my dear friend Dawn another fellow blogger at the-feathered-nest.blogspot.com inspired me!  I love all you fellow bloggers out there and keep continuing to inspire this country girl.

Much Love!

It's Beginning To a Look A lot Like Christmas!

A Shabby Thanksgiving!

Hi blogging friends.  I've been busy chalk painting a few projects around the house and wanted to share my creations.  First, I needed and wanted to repot my Christmas cactus but needed a pretty pot. I chalk painted a huge terra cotta, with a little lace!   Second, my big comfy Ikea chair needed a side table, I chalk painted the outside white and the underside a pale pink with this cute basket to match full of pumpkins.  Third, I had this shutter taking up room in the garage so I chalk painted it a pretty yellow.  One of my most favorite finds are these porcelain birds, they are dated, numbered and signed, "Lefton 1957". You know a mother turns her back and her babies have left the nest, which is what these beautiful hand painted birds remind me of.  My son will be hosting Thanksgiving this year but wanted to set my table for all my blogging friends.  I'm so blessed to share my Thanksgiving with my family and even though some of our family are not with us and have passed away, they will certainly be with us in our hearts and minds!  Some of the things I am thankful for, Family, Health and I am truly a Blessed....

May God bless each and everyone of you this Thanksgiving holiday!

It's a Southern Thing!

Yea, it's a Southern Thing!   A beautiful bouquet of confederate rose and sweater pumpkins for my southern dining table?  This hibiscus cousin doesn't have the most attractive history but what a beautiful flower!  Myth has it during the civil war a confederate soldier wounded from battle, bled next to the "Hybiscus Mutabilis"  or changeable hibiscus, his blood making the bloom change color.

This could be a story from "Gone With The Wind" but I have certainly adopted this beautiful plant into my garden.  As you can see the blooms are a beautiful light pink that change to almost red by the end of day.  Even though this flower hails from China, I am glad our southern climate brings it home to the South called, the Confederate Rose.

I highly recommend this rose to any flower enthusiast.

Miss Mustard Seed, You Don't Need Ketchup!

OK, I admit my daughter Jessica is in all the "know" with the different kinds of paint!  I've been painting furniture for a long time before it was popular but she loves "Miss Mustard Seed Paint"!  Check out her first attempt in the color Grain Sack.  A beautiful before and after.  My daughter loves the colors and when she says color she means the pigment and the surprise of how different the piece will turn out.   This piece chipped a little but was perfect with distressing on your own.  The paint is a creative type of paint, different from your norm.  She will definitely continue to use her paint.  I may even try my first attempt, so stay tuned.   Such a beautiful transformation!  Thanks for continuing to visit my blog, it's such a beautiful blog world!

Many blessings, Debby........
